Theme 4: Amazing Animals
For our fourth theme, we will be enjoying Amazing Animals. We will read about incredible animals who live on our Earth as well as some funny make believe animals. This is another favorite theme for the children. We will read many fiction and non fiction stories including “Officer Buckle and Gloria” by Peggy Rathmann, “Ant” by Rebecca Stefoff, “The Great Ball Game” by Joseph Bruchac, illustrated by Susan L. Roth, “Little Grunt and the Big Egg” by Tomie dePaola, and “Mighty Dinosaurs” by Judith Simpson.
In addition, the children will write an animal research report. The research report will be completed in school, but the children will gather information from home. Your child can begin to think about an animal that they would be interested in researching. I would like the children to focus on a specific animal. The topic Dogs is too general. It would be easier to write a report on a specific type of dog, such as a golden retriever or German shepherd. A letter will be sent home with specific details of what children may want to use for resources. I anticipate this will be an enjoyable experience for the children.
